Dear Parents and Learners,

I would like to welcome everyone back to school and wish you all the best for 2020!

A very warm welcome to both ‘old’ and ‘new’ parents, may the year ahead be a successful one.

NEW MEMBERS OF STAFF
St Francis College would like to welcome Ms C Delport who replaced Mrs Irving during the fourth term.  Ms N Salthouse will be teaching Grade 2. Mrs K Naidoo will be Grade 4 Register teacher and Mrs Janse van Rensburg will be Grade 6 register teacher. We hope that this is the beginning of a long and happy stay at St Francis College.

SCHOOL FEES
Parents are reminded that fees are due on the 7th of each month.
Please set up debit orders to ensure that your fees are paid on time. Your co-operation in this regard helps with the smooth running of the school.

SCHOOL ENDING TIMES
The school day officially ends at 14:15 (Monday to Friday). Please note that school will no longer end early on Friday. All learners must be collected promptly by 15:15 everyday after school. Any learners left after 15:15 will be taken to after-care and you will be charged a fee of R60.

TEXT BOOKS AND STATIONERY
The tuition fee includes a ‘once off’ basic stationery allowance, but once these items are finished it is up to parents to replace them. (These items should only last for the duration of term one and then they will need to be replenished). The monthly school fees levied will be an all-inclusive fee that will cover your child’s tuition, textbooks and basic stationery. Please note: Textbooks will not be owned by learners as they will need to be returned to the school at the end of the year. Parents, please encourage your children to take the utmost care of the textbooks as learners who lose textbooks, or who damage the books, will be asked to pay the full replacement cost. Please cover all the text books with plastic and this way they will be kept in a good condition. Pencil cases should be checked every weekend in order to replace any missing items and to sharpen crayons etc.

AFTER-CARE
We will be running an after-care that will begin at 14:15 to 17:30. Learners will receive a light lunch and a snack will be served later in the afternoon. Homework will be supervised by the after-care teacher and learners will only be permitted to play once all their homework tasks are complete. The after-care will cost R800 per month. If you are interested in making use of the after-care, please send your child to the office to collect application forms.

PARENT INFORMATION MORNING
All parents have received an invitation to the Information Morning that will be held on Saturday 18th January from 09:30 to 10:30. All parents must please be seated in your child’s classroom by 09:15.  You will be addressed by your child’s teacher/teachers, and they will give an outline of the expectations for the academic year ahead. Please do not miss this important event as it will ensure that your child has a smooth transition into the new grade.

CYCLE TESTS TERM ONE
Intermediate Phase learners write weekly cycle tests in all their subjects. Please make sure that your child prepares well for these cycle tests as these and other School Based Assessments count as 75% of your child’s term mark. Please see the Cycle Test Timetable below.

ST FRANCIS SCHOOL DIARY
All learners from Grade 1 to Grade 6 will be issued with a school diary. The first page of the diary is most important as contact details must be filled in by the parent/guardian. Ensure that the contact numbers are accurate and that we are able to use those numbers in case of an emergency. Also, in the front of the diary is the Schools’ Code of Conduct. Please initial each page of the Code of Conduct and both parent and learner must sign on the final page. This is an acknowledgement that you are aware of and accept the school rules.

SWIMMING LESSONS
All learners from Grade One to Grade Three participate in the ‘Learn to Swim’ Programme. This is a compulsory activity and learners will not be excused from participating in the programme. Being able to float/swim once immersed in water is a ‘Life Insurance’ policy for your child. Please do not allow your child to miss lessons as these lessons form part of assessment activities for the Life Skills component reflected on their report…learners who do not swim may end up not passing Life Skills. Please see swimming days per grade below:
